About Me

Tony Rodriguez
Tony is a professional music composer with over eight years’ experience, as well as a Bachelor of Music Composition from the School of Music, Theater and Dance College at Kansas State University. As a composer, Tony can proficiently play all woodwinds and dabbles in brass, keyboards and guitar/bass, giving him insight that translates into quality compositions and part writing.
He has performed in over 25 different ensembles in a wide variety of styles including; jazz, orchestral, contemporary, modern rock and theatre. Ensembles Tony has performed with at Kansas State University include: Piccolo in the Symphony Orchestra, Auxiliary Clarinets in the Wind Ensemble, Principal Oboe in the Concert Band, Reeds in both "Lab-A" & Collegiate Jazz Ensemble, Bassoon Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Recorder Consort, Clarinet and Electric Bass in the "Pride of Wildcat Land" Athletic Bands and Reeds in the Theatre/Opera Orchestra.
Notable theatre gigs include: Guys and Dolls, The Drowsy Chaperone, Hello Dolly, The Addams Family, West Side Story, A Chorus Line, Oklahoma, Pirates of Penzance, Peter and the Star Catcher & A Christmas Carol.
Tony has written arrangements & originals performed by the Kansas State University Symphony Orchestra, Flute Ensemble, Bassoon Ensemble, and Jazz Ensembles (Combos, Big Band, and Latin groups). As the jazz librarian for Kansas State University, Tony filed and logged all big band charts, annotating missing parts and correctly recreating them based off the scores.
As a private woodwind instructor, Tony educated over a dozen students in the field of applied theory and performance technique on various woodwind instruments. One student placed first chair in the Kansas State University Wind Ensemble for four years in a row. He also adapted his teaching technique to accommodate a visually impaired student, who fell in love with playing music by ear.
Tony plans on pursuing a Master in Music Composition next year, as he is spending a year with his family after a major emergency. While his formal education is paused, he is performing with the Allen community band on baritone saxophone as well as the McKinney community band on alto clarinet in Texas.
